September 22, 2008
Hi Friends,
Well, it has been a week since many of us returned from a fun but wet campout at Pine Ridge RV Campground in Birch Run. We had 31 rigs. Thank you to the Mills and Thompsons for making the arrangements for the weekend. We welcomed new members Pete and Barb Walters. They are neighbors of Joyce and Sonny Frantz and have just purchased a new SunnyBrook We also congratulated Warren and Joyce Anderson who celebrated their 50th wedding in September and Jack and Joyce Klawiter who will be celebrating their 60th anniversary in early October.
Only one fine was issued during the weekend for failure to wear a name tag. Jenene Wright had no problem with paying the fine since Terry Westedt, constable, called her a “nice young lady.”
Many of us spent the days either shopping in Frankenmuth, especially at Bronner’s Christmas store (unbelievable!) and Birch Run Prime outlet mall. Fifty one of us enjoyed dinner together at Zehnder’s Restaurant – famous for their chicken dinners served family style. Delicious! Also, some of us ate at Tony’s Restaurant where the portions are very large. If you have not ever eaten there, be sure to read the menu before ordering. A BLT is served on Italian bread and has a pound of bacon! Omelets are 6-8 eggs. Needless to say we split the meals – it was good eating.
We had a club potluck together on Saturday night. The ham was very tasty and of course we all enjoyed the food that everyone brought to the table. It is so too bad that I get filled up so fast. What great cooks we have!
The rain subsided enough on Thursday and Friday evenings so that we could have a large group campfire. The Vander Bies hosted – Carla has such a way with campfires. Also, I don’t give a “hoot” what you say, Mitch and Jack B., but I think we have to adhere to that familiar quote “What happens at the campfire, stays at the campfire!”
Please Note - The fall meeting will be October 28 at 7 p.m. at Coopersville Fun-N-Sun. Please remember to bring your own chair along and wear your name tag. After October 1, the Muskegon dealership will still be an RV dealership but will not be Fun-N-Sun, nor will they carry SunnyBrooks. Due to the economy Fun-N-Sun will be consolidating their business into Coopersville and Ludington. I spoke with Dennis Grossenbacher at the RV show and he asked me to reassure the membership that we will still receive the same great service. That will not change!
At our business meeting, Sue Mills asked for suggestions of ways to spend some of the monies in our account. Suggestions were: donate some funds to a needy cause, waive the dues for one year (this cannot be done since it is part of the by-laws that we pay yearly dues), pay for a catered dinner at a future campout, buy or rent a tent for campgrounds that do not have buildings for our club dinners. Purchasing a tent would pose a problem with storing and setting it up. Please think about it and we will discuss it again at the October meeting. Dave Wright said he knew of a needy couple that could use the money. He had just received a phone call from his daughter in North Carolina and fuel was over $5.00 a gallon. Since he and Jenene were going there to visit, he figured they were in need of the funds. Yah – this just met with groans and laughter! Sounded like a good idea at the time, right Dave?
2009 CAMPING SCHEDULE
May 15 and 26, Silver Creek RV Resort, Mears, MI
Wagonmasters will be Mel and Eula Brimmer and Ron and Barb Dreyer.
We saw Mel and Eula at the 5th Third RV Show and she informed me that the four of them will be hosting and more information will be available at the October meeting.
June 30 – July 3, International Rally, Hamburg, NY
Sites will be water and electric only. People are welcome to extend their stay over the 4th of July weekend for approximately $20 per night. The theme for the rally will be favorite sports team with prizes being awarded for best decorated rig and best dressed sports fan, etc. Sue Mills suggested visiting Goat Island in Niagara Falls, NY if you are going to attend the international rally
August 14 and 15, Bellvue Campground, Bellvue, MI
Wagonmasters will be George and Liz Guilford. Members are welcome to arrive on Thursday and stay over until Monday. They are checking into the dinner theater at Turkeyville. Nearby attractions are Cereal City, Michigan State Capitol, Gilmore Classic Car Museum, Kalamazoo Air Zoo and Binder Park Zoo. More information will be available at a later date. Reservations are due by the April meeting.
Wagonmasters are still needed for the September or October campout. Tom and Carla Redenius are willing to help someone but due to their travel schedule they are not able to take the lead role at this time. Many past wagonmasters told the members that it is not a difficult job. It is only as labor intensive as you want it to be.
Enjoy this great Michigan weather. Hope to see many of you in Coopersville on October 28.
